Sculpture of St. Giovanni Calabria
What characterizes this work is its solidity and monumentality: Don Calabria appears steadfast, like a load-bearing column. In his teachings lie the roots of his Work, and his example and his teachings are the foundations of his Work. The sculpture depicts Saint Giovanni Calabria as we remember him, also thanks to the historical photographs that have come down to us, with a serene gaze, one hand outstretched and the other on his heart, a sign of his goodness of spirit and his dedication to the sick.
Detail of the bronze sculpture
The value of bronze
The sculpture was made in bronze using the ancient lost-wax casting technique. A first scaled-down model in plasticine was created in order to study and determine the posture and expression that best represented the subject. Once the details had been established, work proceeded to the creation of the full-scale model, and then to the working of the bronze, concluding with the patination.
