The Balladoro Palace is situated in one of the most ancient streets in Verona and is a refined example of an 18th century noble home. The frescoes in the Hall of Honor, which were the focus of the restoration, were painted in 1780 by Pio Piatti, a pupil of Cignaroli, in collaboration with Carlo Ederle, who executed the “quadratura” (architectural prospectives). In addition to the frescoes, the restoration also involved the hall’s terracotta flooring, the wooden window and door frames and the wooden floors of the adjacent room.

The use of a rigorous conservative approach led to the elimination of the causes of decay while limiting the intervention to the essentials. Consequently, PROGETTO ARTE POLI avoided invasive removal and integration operations.

The intervention enhanced the original materials through differentiated methodologies: the terracotta was restored through professional cleaning, targeted repairs and a wax finish. For the wood, the original parquet squares (quadrotte) were restored and integrated with new handcrafted elements matching the pre-existing wood panels, in full agreement with the Superintendency.
